no legal department would ever allow the first public statement to contain something that could be regarded as an admission of guilt
in reply to BrianKrebs

100% legals doing to be sure. Admitting fault to breaking millions of PCs is fodder for the impending lawsuit.
in reply to BrianKrebs

@WarnerCrocker

Also important to note- for many their main way of communicating to their remote IT staffs, their computer network, is broken.

Including IP phone systems. Managers are probably calling support via their smart phones.

in reply to BrianKrebs

Maybe this is a stretch, but I see this failure to acknowledge fault as on a continuum with the Secret Service Directors refusal to resign and the Sacklers' efforts to keep their billions despite their crimes. It's also a large part of what fuels MAGA Fascism. All ordinary people with any moral sense see this sh*t going on and they are desperate for someone to be held accountable. Demagogues like Trump exploit that. Fire and lock up a few CEOs and MAGA will lose some appeal.
in reply to BrianKrebs

The fix has been deployed? How can you deploy to PCs which don't boot up?
in reply to BrianKrebs

This is fitting. The top topic on Xitter right now is of course the global Crowdstrike/Windows clusterfuck. But the AI summary of the discussion is hilarious, b/c it summarizes a bunch of sarcastic posts and makes it sound like a positive (or at least can-do) story.
in reply to BrianKrebs

Several individuals have recently started working at the cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike and have expressed their excitement and pride in their new roles. They have shared their experiences of pushing code to production on their first day and are looking forward to positive outcomes in their work.

Maybe there's hope for AI yet... 🤣😂

in reply to BrianKrebs

In case you need a free trial of Crowdstrike rn....
in reply to BrianKrebs

two sort of trials come to mind
a) Trial in a court
b) Trial by combat!
in reply to BrianKrebs

When I visited this morning on phone, ad was in middle of text of press release.
in reply to BrianKrebs

Saw that earlier. Free trial for the thing that's causing global carnage.
in reply to BrianKrebs

Well if people don't put their sarcasm tags, it's now AIs fault?!
in reply to BrianKrebs

I especially like it highlighting someone else stealing a popular joke. When even making cheap shots is too much effort…
in reply to BrianKrebs

Right, so I'm guessing the shitposts have the highest engagement so it picks these up for a summary?

Fitting, really. Both for that particular site and AI tech overall.

in reply to BrianKrebs

Oh, this is just too wonderful! 🤣🤣🤣😂😂
in reply to BrianKrebs

I'm a new start engineer at CrowdStrike too!

We're a great team and I'm sure that no one has really been inconvenienced.
And that the company will make good all financial losses.

in reply to BrianKrebs

also the posts are very similar, so maybe also AI? Does AI here just summarize other AIs? 😜 Are there still humans on X? Who knows.
in reply to BrianKrebs

Good example how the so called Artificially Intelligence works.
in reply to BrianKrebs

Hehe.
“This story is a summary of posts on X and may evolve over time. Grok can make mistakes, verify its outputs.”
No shit Sherlock.
in reply to BrianKrebs

HAHA 🤣
So many amazing jokes and trolls coming out of this!

in reply to BrianKrebs

they fired me from cloudstrike because I had the audacity to say it was crazy to push to production on a Friday!
in reply to BrianKrebs

well, "blame tools" or "blame an intern" are popular bingo card options for large outages. ;)
in reply to BrianKrebs

Entire orgs going down all over the globe and they have the gall to say "this is not a security incident".
😂👌
in reply to BrianKrebs

First comment would constitute an admission of legal liability so it's not going to happen
in reply to BrianKrebs

executive staff and politicians don’t seem to understand how far they could go to fix ill will if they just admitted fault and apologized.

It’s like none of them went to kindergarten.

in reply to BrianKrebs

so they didn't test this before they deployed

GOT IT

in reply to BrianKrebs

these posts will keep me laughing while I wait to see if my flight will be taking off or not...
in reply to BrianKrebs

and here's your fucked up instructions on how to fix this massive shit pile for us
in reply to BrianKrebs

He lied right in that tweet. its.impossible for them to deploy a fix to systems that are an infinite reboot loop.
in reply to BrianKrebs

Legitimately, do C-levels ever admit mistakes? I have always assumed it's in Management-101 to never do that. And at most decide to spend more time with the family, because no one can attack that out loud.
in reply to BrianKrebs

"....This is not a security incident..."

False. Supply-chain denial of service is most definitely a security incident.

"....to ensure the security and stability of CrowdStrike customers."

False. To bypass customers' (N-1) and (N-2) preferences to limit widespread crashes, CrowdStrike has been pushing changes by releasing three versions simultaneously. So, customer N-1 'stable' portion of the fleet was impacted just as much as the N-0.

  • On Tuesday July 16, 2024, 7.15.18513 will be promoted to Auto - N-1 and 7.14.18410 will be promoted to Auto - N-2
in reply to BrianKrebs

This is not a screwup. This is a drill for a real cyber incursion! Just be glad we tested your response team before someone takes down your network!
in reply to BrianKrebs

as a typical dead-inside French person, these people who feel the urge of saying to everyone how amazing their workplace is (after only one day !) look soooo american 😅
in reply to BrianKrebs

becuse in human terms AI suffers from mental illness - its judgements sound ok, but they are disconnected from reality.
in reply to BrianKrebs

The CEO "eventually" apologised, after saying they rolled out a fix. A fix that doesn't help the millions of systems already gubbed.
