So far this year @ProPublica has reported on who's working for #DOGE, the impacts of cuts on agencies like #USAID, and a lot more. Reporting on abuses of power matters more than ever before.

This is the last day of our spring member drive you can give as a member. As always, I would love the #fediverse to be represented in our member base. It matters.

If you have the means, please consider joining as a member through a gift of any amount: https://give.propublica.org/give/346423/#!/donation/checkout?c_src=ben #journalism

In October, we published secret recordings of Russell Vought discussing plans to eviscerate entire agencies and decimate the morale of federal workers if Trump won a second term.

It's hard to imagine a more prescient piece of journalism, our editor-in-chief writes.

"Can you prompt an LLM to write like an FT journalist?"

Interesting talk by Katie Koschland:

Spoiler: Generative AI may be good for drafting articles, but it doesn't meet high journalistic standards (yet).

Keeping up with the Good and Bad of #AI in #Journalism.

That's the title of the keynote our Wilfried Runde recently gave at the Medienforum Mittweida.

We're aware it's in German, but we're posting it anyway. Because it's too good to disappear into the void. And because we know a lot of our followers understand Deutsch (or at least have access to a subtitling tool).

So here's Wilfried's take on journalism, politics, media literacy & trust in the age of synthetic media:

A reminder that today and tomorrow (Thurs/Fri) #Guardian & #Observer journalists are on strike and you most definitely should avoid using The Guardian website in solidarity.

Published in 2023, but still relevant:

A paper that looks at how 52 different media organizations from 12 countries address expectations and concerns when it comes to using AI in the news:

Over 200,000 subscribers reportedly flee The Washington Post after owner Jeff Bezos blocked an endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for president.

@npr reports "the figure represents about 8% of the paper’s paid circulation of 2.5 million subscribers, which includes print as well." Several columnists have also resigned from the paper over the decision.

If you're in the neighborhood (i.e. the Cologne / #Bonn region) this week, make sure to stop by at the b° future #festival (host: Bonn Institute), a one-of-a-kind #event dedicated to future-oriented, socially relevant #journalism.

There's no specific DW Innovation booth or session, but a lot of DW colleagues are involved in one way or another. And the program is really compelling.

"#FactChecking requires the right and ability to find #sources, read widely and interview experts who are free to speak candidly — all as part of a rigorous #methodology and process. (...) Fact-checking is part of a free press and high-quality #journalism, and it contributes to public #information and #knowledge."

From the #IFCN 's "Sarajevo Statement" – which comes at a time when free speech, transparency, and the preservation of information are under massive pressure.
